‘...And the wall fell away' was a solo exhibition by the artist Yinka Shonibare MBE at Stephen Friedman Gallery in October 2016. The statues of David, Venus de Milo and the Discus Thrower, are recreated in a scaled-down size and adorned with African batik patterns, which I adapted and designed. They were painted on to the statues using stencils, creating a wrap-like effect. I was then commissioned to create a large floor vinyl at the entrance to the space which is rendered in gold and red and inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's famous drawing ‘Vitruvian Man'. For this artwork there is a black figure which is a hybrid of both man and woman, each having their own defined colour.
